Abstrakt
The article deals with the origin, development and significance of embolism in the Mass Order of the Roman Catholic liturgy. It presents the hypothesis that the original prayer for the breaking of the bread was transformed into a prayer of preparation for the reception of the Eucharist, and from these the present embolism evolved.
