Tropes and rhetoric have been an integral part of traditional communication. However, with the rapid advancement of digital technologies and the persistent presence of digital communication tools in our day-to-day lives, it is important to examine how these rhetorical devices operate in digital communication.

This paper presents tropes and rhetorical strategies commonly used in digital communication to enhance persuasion for maximizing user engagement. The paper will outline commonly used strategies and their potential use in the digital realm, such as the use of metaphors to simplify complex ideas, the utility of persuasive visuals and storytelling, and the social proof as influential factors for user perceptions. Moreover, the paper has also discussed the importance of persuasive copywriting by utilizing emotional appeals and rhetorical techniques, also the motivational impact of gamification elements, the effectiveness of creating a sense of shortage and urgency, the benefits of personalized user experiences, and the role of well-designed call-to-action stimuli in driving user behavior. Understanding and utilizing these tropes and rhetorical techniques can substantially contribute to the effectiveness and understanding of digital communication in achieving the intended goal of user engagement. In the end, this paper has also highlighted the difference between user engagement in digital and traditional communication
