Abstract

The microhistorical study is based on various sources of both an ecclesiastical and municipal origin. The text details the beginnings and functioning of the Capuchin hospice in the city of Český Brod in Central Bohemia.

It discusses the mutual interactions of the newly founded institution with the traditional municipal community. It deals in detail with the relations between the Capuchins and the municipal council, individual citizens, the town priest etc. from the establishment of the hospice in 1745 to its dissolution in 1786.

The study also focuses on the Capuchins' activities outside of the city walls, namely on their mendicant aims in the closest neighbourhood of Český Brod and on their engagement in the spiritual administration in the pilgrim site in Tismice nearby.
