Abstract
This talk pertains to the linguistic context of early medieval Northeast Bavaria east of the frontier specified in the Diedenhofener Capitular (805/806), with a focus on the differentiated areas of Slavic settlement connected to the Sorbian and Czech languages. Against this backdrop, I discuss the origin of a group of geographically clustered place names (Frath x4, Frathau x1), which were once claimed to be Slavic by Alois Huber (1875: 89) but have not since been included in the discussion of Bavarian Slavic toponomy.
The names in question are analysed alongside potential parallels from the region and explanations are offered but without a strong conclusion being reached.
