Abstract

The aim of this presentation is to discuss the comparative part of the dissertation research focusing on the comparison of Austrian and Czech legislation on the restitution of Looted Art. After a historical introduction, describing the social situation before the Anschluss, the institutions carrying out the aryanisation, which were replicated in most of the occupied territories, were briefly mentioned.

Subsequently, the post-war restitution regulations were critically evaluated and compared with the Czech legislation. Attention was then focused on developments in the 1990s, especially the "Wally" case, the adoption of the restitution law BGBl I 1998/181 and the subsequent case of the "Woman in Gold".
