The conference paper concerns the presentation of the registers of the holders of the Czechoslovak Order of the White Lion, which are kept in the Archive of the Office of the President of the Republic at Prague Castle. It is a summary of the significance of this source for research into the history of the Order and its diplomatic contribution to the newly established Czechoslovakia.
The paper also focuses on the overall perception of the orders and decorations, which were considered as relics of the monarchy, rejected but at the same time had to deal with their necessity and need within the framework of diplomatic relations with other states. The main part of the paper is devoted to the structure of the civil registration, a description of its individual parts and an analysis of the informational contribution of each section.
These are described and evaluated from a diplomatic perspective. I have processed the information from the civil registration records statistically into graphs that present the numbers of holders of each class of the order in both variants of its groups - military and civilian, as well as within the individual states whose citizens were awarded the order or decoration.
I have also focused on the professions of the recipients at the time they received the award. In this paper I draw attention to a not very well presented source of information on this phallic topic and indicate the possibilities of its use.
I am adapting the conference paper into an article for the phaleristic periodical Signum, which is tentatively scheduled to appear in print in early 2024.
