After the establishment of the Central Commission for the Examination and Preservation of Architectural Monuments (Central-Commission für Erforschung und Erhaltung der Baudenkmale) in 1850 and the start of its activities in 1853, the search for and appointment of conservators for the individual territories of the Habsburg Monarchy began. The conference paper described the process of selecting regional conservators for Bohemia based on the preserved official correspondence of the Presidium of the Bohemian Governorate.
Nominations from subordinate district governors and regional governors provided a wealth of information about the persons proposed and allowed insight into the involvement of the offices of political administration in the early stages of official conservation.
