Even the representatives of the professional public are often unaware of the existence of an interconnected and centralized system of several hundred traffic cameras operated in the Czech Republic by the Police of the Czech Republic, municipalities and other operators. What can be determined from the recordings of these cameras, how long are they stored and for what purposes can they be used? On the basis of a specific case that has been dealt with for several years by courts of various levels, most recently by the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic, the author seeks answers to these questions and also tries to generalize and predict their further development.
The text also briefly analyses the admissibility of the interference with the right to privacy in the given case and its limits and describes the Central Automatic Vehicle Inspection system itself on the basis of available information.
