Abstract
Water has the ability to create and reshape social worlds. People adapt their lives and social structures to their understanding of its power, availability, and value.
In a time of climate change, understanding human-water relations is more urgent than ever. The article shows, using the results of an interdisciplinary project Stories of Drought, how can social sciences contribute to the sustainable water management.
It presents a new methodology for participatory planning of a drought-resilient landscapes based on the creation of the maps (scenarios) of future landscape development for 2050. The maps innovatively combine local knowledge, social science research results, expert projections of the development of landscape features, and climate models.
