Years of Wandering : People on the Road in the Long 19th Century. 43rd Pilsen Interdisciplinary Symposium on the Long 19th Century

Publication

Abstract

Twenty eight contributions presented a wide range of different forms of human mobility conditioned by profession or duty, the desire to explore, the search for artistic inspiration or adventure and many other reasons. The authors of the individual contributions did not neglect the technical conditions of travel and the question of the changes in the perception of the world by people in motion.

The journeys were subsequently reflected upon and treated in literary or artistic form; the travellers themselves or, for example, members of nomadic crafts became the object of artistic depiction. The conference thus offered a wide range of different disciplinary approaches and methods to grasp the phenomenon of wandering or travelling in a new and interesting way.
