Software for analysis of peripheral chemoreceptor function (carotid bodies) is based on evaluation of changes in tidal breathing (tidal volume, respiratory rate, minute ventilation) under hyperoxia (patient 100% oxygen). Analysis is performed off-line and uses data from nitrogen multiple breath washout test (device Exhalyzer D, Ecomedics).
Main outcome parameters include hyperoxia response time and relative change in minute ventilaton during first 30 s of hyperoxia.
