The gradual integration of the Czech Republic into Western security structures was reflected in the preparations for membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation by the adoption of the Constitutional Law on Security of the Czech Republic. The Constitutional Law on the Security of the Czech Republic, in accordance with Article 1(1) of the Constitution, laid the constitutional basis for ensuring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, leaving the determination of individual security duties to the relevant laws.
