Abstract
The book is a monograph on the Czech singer-songwriter Jaromír Nohavica. This is not a biography; at least not in the sense that it deals with an account of Nohavica's life, his family background, or his parents or wife's influence on him.
The book portrays Nohavica as a figure that enables one to understand better the functioning of the public sphere in late socialism in Czechoslovakia, and post socialism in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. The book's main idea is that Nohavica is a visible symptom of a wider phenomenon called late socialist life with all its paradoxicality, elusiveness, and the resulting complexity of its retrospective remembering.
