Abstract
French Baroque painting separated itself from Italian Baroque painting by its emphasis on the legacy of antiquity, its moderation and its association with Renaissance examples, such as Raphael. It was based on his Dutch landscape examples of Leonardesque landscape painting and was related to Poussin's landscape patterns.
Claude Gellée known as Lorrain individualized himself by learning about Dutch landscape painters, their realism and genre.
