Poussin - the leading French painter of Roman figurative classicism: Textbook
Nicolas Poussin was born near Paris and, after many vicissitudes, established himself first in Paris and later with the support of the poet Giambattista Marino in Rome as a leading French painter of Roman figural classicism, where he came under the influence of Simon Vouet, later the founder of Parisian classicist painting. He first attracted the attention of the poet Giambattista Marino in Paris and then the French queen Maria Medici. He followed in the poet's footsteps to Rome and created the first form of French classicism there. He went to Paris for a short time and then returned to Rome, where he continued to create until his death.
