Karel Engliš, a distinguished scientist, economist, university professor, rector and politician, gives us a glimpse into his creative "kitchen". In an open, self-critical and humorous way, he takes stock of his scientific beginnings and reveals the methods and procedures of his successful studies and work.
His reflections on the morality of scientific work, on the freedom and autonomy of universities, and on the behaviour of politicians and academic officials are of great value and relevance today. He himself was guided by these standards.
