Abstract
Nasal polyposis is an inflammatory disease affecting the sinonasal mucosa, which belongs to a very heterogeneous group of chronic rhinosinusitis. This disease significantly reduces the quality of life of patients and its prevalence in the population is reported to be approximately between 2-5%.
The last comprehensive work dealing with nasal polyps was published in our country more than 17 years ago and since then the level of knowledge, especially of the pathophysiology, of polyposis has advanced considerably. Currently, emphasis is placed on the differentiation of individual pathophysiological mechanisms, the so-called endotypes, which are responsible for the clinical picture and course of the disease, i.e. the phenotype.
In the near future, the aim should be to reflect this distinction in the individualization of therapy, which should be significantly facilitated by the introduction of biological therapy in the treatment of nasal polyposis. The book is mainly intended for postgraduate training in otorhinolaryngology, but useful information can also be found by specialists who also come into contact with this issue (allergists and pulmonologists) and also by primary care physicians.
