The aim of the study is to show how district captains serving in Bohemia before 1918, who were also the officials responsible for the smooth running of the census by their position, defined their language of daily use in the census records. This issue is illustrated by the example of three personalities: Adolf Kirchner von Neukirchen, Franz Hiebel and Alfred Pokorn ý.
Attention is paid in particular to the aspects that led to the choice of a particular language of daily use.
