How can simple yoga techniques be used in learning a musical instrument, in practicing the instrument itself or in preparation for a concert? In the course, enriched with the knowledge from my PhD internship abroad, I guide teachers in 4 blocks of 90 minutes through basic breathing techniques and simple sequences of exercises. Combining movement with breath and elements of mindfulness are the main principles of yoga for musicians.
This practical course offers the opportunity to try out a demonstration of this methodology on your own body and to use it in your teaching and musical practice. It is the simplicity of using the techniques with the instrument with the students and the dialogue with you, and you with your body, that is essential.
The positions are aimed at preparation before playing the instrument, stretching and compensating in between playing and bringing relief after a long practice session. The course is designed with the individual needs of the group in mind. I will introduce ways to effectively relax the body, mind, and eliminate stage fright, and stretch exposed parts of the musician's body with special attention to the hands.
My personal vision is to offer yoga as an effective tool for improving the physical health and overall well-being of musicians. All are welcome regardless of musical instrument, physical ability, or previous yoga experience.
