Abstract

In 1765 J.G. Herder left to teach at the gymnasium in Riga.

Here he formulates his first pedagogical theses, which he subsequently writes down four years later on his journey from Riga to France. Journal Meine Reise (1769) is thus the main pedagogical work he left us.

When, after 1800, Humboldt was preparing his university reform, it is no coincidence that it is this writing that falls into his hands and thus becomes one of the main pillars of the new education. Thus, in the first part of my paper, I intend to present the origins of Humboldt's reform, especially with regard to the aforementioned text by Herder and his conception of education.

In the second part, however, I want to address a more practical topic, namely how to apply this contemporary approach today, especially in the field of philosophy teaching in universities. In doing so, I will try to suggest a curriculum in philosophy that could be taught in technical faculties and that would be akin to the way J.

G. Herder and W.

Humboldt understood education.
