The role of GPs in the diagnostics and therapy of osteoporosis. Epidemiology, incidence and diagnostics

Abstract

Osteoporosis is very common disease with high prevalence, estimated 5-7% of the whole population. Due to increase of the proportion of older people in the population, further increase is expected.

Clinical signs are not specific, usually, and dominating diagnostic procedure is the measurement of Bone Mineral Density by DXA technique. The FRAX program could be very useful.
