Abstract

The paper deals with the effect of small-scale convection in oceanic asthenosphere on the magnitude of seismic anisotropy. The presented 3d models of mantle flow indicate that the strikingly small amplitudes of the horizontal anisotropy observed beneath oceans may be related to the presence of small scale thermal convection flows in the upper mantle
