New Self-Motions of Parallel Manipulators

Abstract

We study properties of parallel manipulators with planar platform and base. We show that they always satisfy a quadratic equation in Study parameters.

This equatuion is identically equal to zero iff the manipulator is architecturally singular. We also describe a large class of manipulators with self-motions, special cases of which were already studied by Borel and Bricard.
