Abstract
Bacon's treatise is a key document of mediaeval semiotics and semantic; except for brief excerpts, it has not been yet translated into any other language. The translator's introductory study situates Bacon's treatise in the contemporary debates and presents an independent analysis of all the main doctrinal points.
