Abstrakt
The following text deals with the role of language in the process of creating the collective Cyprus identity and possible reunification of the divided island. The article focuses mainly on main factors to division of Cyprus into two de facto independent states - external factors (interventions by Greece and Turkey), mass support of the enosis program by the communities and taksim and finally destructive influence of the elites.
The sekond part of the article deals with basic shift in politics of identity in TRNC as well as in Republic of Cyprus.
