Abstract
The monograph presents the research of the diversity of languages in modern literatures. One focus is on the process in which dialects and remnants of ancient languages are used for the constitution of standard (national) languages of established cultures.
Another shared topic is the coexistence of multilingual communities that gives birth to new cultural identities. Still another perspective shared by several authors is the chosen (not just ?happening? in the biographical sense) multilingual creative being of a writer.
Last but not least the monograph, which researches European and American literatures, focuses on multilingualism as a conscious literary approach and style rather than a depiction of multilingual reality.
