Jan Slavík and 'Anti-Guild' Discourse. Social History between Historical Thought and Historian´s Practice

Abstract
Czech university historians, typified by Jaroslav Goll and his historical school, were particularly resistent to new innovative trends on the field of social history after 1918. A spokesman for those outside the university who were either democrats or left wing was Jan Slavík.
He was one of the Czech historians who best mastered the social analysis of Max Weber. He was also partly influenced by marxism.
These methodological instruments helped him to develop heavy polemics against Josef pekař, a major power in official ('guild') Czech historiography.
