The study focuses on the most important documentaries by the female Czech director Věra Chytilová, which are comparable in quality with her best feature films. The analyzed documentary work is divided according to topics and genres: the portraits of important personalities (T.G.

Krumbachová), the portraits of city and other locations (Prague, Prague suburb Troja) and the the very author´s view by Chytilová on the history of Czech artistic photography by means of the biographies of the important photographers: K. Ludwig, V.
Chochola and Z. Tmej.
