Onomasiology, word formation and the linguistic picture of the world

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2009

Abstract

The paper outlines, illustrates and elucidates a few basic principles, connections and differences between the traditional approaches of linguistics (structural or structure-functional linguistics) and cognitive linguistics. Because onomasiology has the main general theoretical validity to elucidate the complex relations between language and thought, the paper focuses on nominational processes from the viewpoint of categorisation of objective reality and its content-structuring in onomasiological and word-formation structures.
