Abstract
The article deals with the question, whether systems declared as totalitarian (communism, nazism, fascism) are consequncies of changes subsumed under term of modernization. It comes to the conclusion, that despite some differencies and some parallels in antiquity and Middle Ages ideology and practice of totalitarian systems are closely connected with the modern processes (abandonment of religion, masses in public life).
