Introduction: Frontiers and Identities in Context

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2007

Abstract

The chapter displays the path and the argumentation of the research group as presented in the volume along the defined "connecting themes" which focus on imaginary and conflicts of powers and desires formulated as five particular topics:(1) concepts, methods and approaches in regard to the field of frontiers and identities,(2)a conflict between civility and savagery;(3)borders and frontiers as created, imagined, and challenged by states and by power; (4)identities as contested through migration;(5) and images of identity. Authors introduce also all twenty three chapters, and point to interconnections and cross references among them.
