The study addressed question of differences in socioeconomic inequalities in health in Czech districts (2002, 2005) in comparison with results from 18 European countries, and the EU data. Poorer Czech districts report higher sick leave rate and higher unemployment rate.
However, these relationships do not apply when European countries parameters instead of Czech districts parameters are entered: Poorer countries tend to the lower level of sick leave rate; no relationship is found between illness and the level of unemployment.
