Abstract
The aim of this paper is to show the strongly pragmatic nature of Czech diminutive nouns by exploring their adjectival collocates. The starting point of the following analysis is the identification of adjectives with pragmatic meaning which occur in the environment of diminutives most frequently.
The next task is to find to what extent they participate in the total frequency of diminutives (i.e., to establish how many adjectives are involved, and what is the sum of their frequencies) and to compare the situation in diminutive and non-diminutive nouns.
