Abstract
There are two parts devoted to explaining the heading in pedagogical encyclopedia. First, the causes of school distress are summarized.
Then, three main theoretical approaches in examining distress are discussed: stress as a reaction, stress as a stimulus, and stress as a transaction. Coping, perception and assessment of the distress by a schoolchild, the diagnostic of coping, practice of coping strategies are explained in more details.
