Abstract
Sign language, used in monasteries, allows tongue to be quiet. This article focuses on history of this type of communication between cistercian monks.
Medieval catalogues and types of signs are discussed and related to its present use in the nuns' monastery at La Fille-Dieu (Switzerland).
