Consensus suggested and demanded: the use and role of enim and ergo in conflict management

Abstract

The study examines the use of the particles enim and ergo in their capacity as appeals to the consensus of the addressee for the purposes of conflict management, the theoretical framework being the theory of politeness by Brown-Levinson (1987).
