The goal of this paper is to answer the question whether Parson's sociology followed previous American sociological tradition. To this end, the author examines Parsons's early work, namely The Structure of Social Action.
Indeed, the paper also examines institutional and cultural background of Parson's early work and the way his early work had been received by his contemporaries. The paper suggests that although Parsons early work departed from previous American tradition in sociology, many of the problems it sought to solve were typical for American sociology of the day.
