Abstract

The choice of the optimal heart valve for replacement depends above all on patients age. After that it is necessary to take into consideration patients concomitant diseases, his expected lifespan and his relation to anticoagulant therapy.

Bioprostheses are recomended in patients over 65 years, but do not have risk factor of trombembolism and in patients with expected short lifespan and there are considered for right sided valves replacement too. Mechanical heart valves are implanted in remaining situations.
