Unpleasant odour from vaginal discharge may go along with vaginal infections. It is the symptom of vaginal infection of all kind. A characteristic ?fish like odour?often accompanies bacterial infection of the vagina. The odour is more pronounced after a sexual contact, during menstruation and in a laboratory test consisting of mixture of vaginal discharge and KOH (potassium hydroxide)-an "amine-like" odour develop) Milk like odour can develop during candidiasis infection.
The reason of the unpleasant odour can be even a tumour of the vaginal tip and foreign matter such as condom, sanitary napkin, lavatory paper,). A urinary odour signalizes incontinency, whereas a faecal odour must lead to a differential diagnostic and exclusion of a possible recto-vaginal fistula.
