Frailty and sarcopenia as its important component

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |

Abstract

Sarcopenia is embedded in many fatal vicious circles: Frailty is a condition that is becoming very important with the ageing of the population. Frailty deserves also more attention both of professionals and of the public.

The cause of this condition is multifactorial and includes both patological situations close to inflammation and metabolic syndrome and also (and especially) malnutrition and hypokinesis. An efficient movement and training programme is one of the factors that are able to prevent or at least substantially postpone the development of this syndrome.
