Abstract
The publication brings manifold insight not only into gastroenterology and hepatology, but also into closely related fields that are of vital importance for the mentioned fields of medicine. The publication includes a chapter on the history of endoscopy, up-to-date information on screening for colorectal carcinoma, diagnostics of non-epithelial tumors of the digestive system, and coherent review of the problem of carcinoma of the pancreas.
The importance of the interdisciplinary cooperation is backed up by chapters about new diagnostic laboratory possibilities or illustrative reviews of imaging methods in gastroenterology. Information about selecting patients for transjugular portosystemic shunt or for large resections of liver is very relevant.
Interdisciplinary recommendations for general practitioners about the risk prevention of side effects of non-steroid antiphlogistics are presented in a concise form.
