The clinical value of fetalMR imaging has substantially increased in the mid-90's of the 20th century after the introduction of ultrafast single-shot MR imaging sequences which are able to acquire the entire data for a single T1 or T2 weighted image in approximately one second. The article deals with technical principles of fetal MR imaging and its basic clinical applications, i.e. prenatal imaging of central nervous system, extracardiac thoracic anomalies, urinary tract, liver, and gastrointestinal tract.
