Femoral artery pseudoaneurysm (PSA) is together with a haematoma the most frequent local complication of the catheterization procedure in the groin with the incidence of 0.1-5.5 %. The risk of unrecognized and untreated PSA is its extension and rupture with bleeding.
Ultrasonography is a sovereign method in diagnostic of PSA and plays a key role in the treatment of PSA - ultrasonography guided compression and percutaneous injection of trombin into the PSA. Surgical treatment is reserved only for extremely large and complicated pseudoaneurysms at present.
