Probiotics plays the most important role in prophylaxis of pathogenesis in colon rectal tumours from the point of view of the anti-tumour effects. The anti-tumour probiotic features are of use during both inhibition of carcinoma genotoxicity and suppression by carcinoma induced by preneoplastic lesions and tumours.
A peroral application of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1 and L. fermentum RC-14 and B-54 strains is the recommended vaginal candida prophylaxis. L. brevis CD-2, L. salivarius FV-2, L. gasseri MB 335, and L. plantarum seem to be suitable as well in the form of gel capsules (L.plantarum) or vaginal tablets (L. gasseri).
L. acidophilus CRL 1294 and L. salivarius CRL 1328 strains display the ability to auto-aggregate and co-aggregate with probiotic lactobacilla strains and can induce, in rare cases, bacteremia and sepsis, especially in immunodeficient patients and those who have had digestive tract surgery.
