Doppler examination, both in the colour or in the spectral mode, is an integral part of every abdominal ultrasound examination. When liver and portal system are evaluated, the morphological-quantitative approach is used which consists in careful evaluation of a twodimensional picture of abdominal parenchymal organs including venous structures and the determination of basic flow variables (presence of flow, direction and character of flow).
In some instances we cannot do without the evaluation of quantitative Doppler parameters, first of all the determination of flow rate.
