The review describes a new diagnostic method, which became operational in the Czech Republic at the end of 2002. The capsule wireless endoscopy represents a revolutionary technology providing a direct imaging of mucosa of the entire intestine, something what has not been available for common endoscopic examination before.
It makes possible to determine a clinically important lesion and, simultaneously, its approximate localization. It should improve the care of patients by decreasing the number of negative endoscopy examinations performed and the right selection of patients indicated for laparotomy with intraoperative endoscopy.
