The ventricular arrhythmias with underlying coronary artery disease are a leading cause of sudden cardiac death (SCD). The proof of myocardial infarction in the SCD survivors is essential to assign the benefit from implantable cardioverter defibrillator.
In SCD survivors, the use of the standard diagnostic criteria of AMI may be difficult, as both serum cardiac biomarkers and electrocardiogram can be influenced by previous cardiac arrest. A novel technique that may be used for the diagnosis of AMI is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
We report its use in four patients after cardiopulmonary resuscitation where the diagnosis of AMI could not be definitely established or excluded by means of other diagnostic procedures.
