Abstract
The first lung resection was performed by Graham in the year 1933 (Graham et al. 1984).The treatment by resection of lung carcinoma has a long history in Hradec Králové, where the first anatomic resection was carried out in 1948 by Procházka. In spite of chemotherapy and radiotherapy progress, a 5-year survival rate for patients is still the highest for radical lung resection.
The surgeons endeavor therefore to offer the treatment to as broad a spectrum of patients as possible.
