Diabetes mellitus is a chronic lifelong disorder with important psychological and psychopathological complications. Recognition of the influence of mental disorders to the course and outcome of the treatment of diabetic patients has prompted interest in the factors that contribute to this problem.
Psychotropic drugs induced diabetes onset have increased interest of psychiatrists to monitoring of metabolic state of patients treated for severe mental disorders. Diabetes mellitus and different mental disorders comorbidity requiring psychiatric supervision supports the collaboration in the base of joint liaison psychiatric-diabetes service.
This article reviews occurrence of psychopathology in the course of diabetes mellitus and disturbances of glycid metabolism in the treatment of some mental disorders
