Abstract
At present, the most important aim of diabetes mellitus treatment is prevention of the start and development of vascular complications. The basic medicine in all diabetics of type 1 and many diabetics of type 2 is insulin.
This hormone has been used in clinical practice since the 1920s, i.e. more than 80 years.
